A hernia most commonly occurs within the abdominal cavity. Typically it is caused by a weakening of the abdominal cavity wall resulting in the protrusion of an organ through that weakening.
There are a number of reasons why an abdominal cavity wall may weaken. It can be congenital, natural weak spots like the groin, connective tissue disorders, chronic straining and pervious surgery.
