SADI-S/SIPS Surgery

What is SIPS surgery?

Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Switch (SADI-S) or Stomach Intestine Sparing Surgery (SIPS) is a procedure that involves a sleeve gastrectomy being performed along with surgery to reroute the small intestine. This procedure restricts stomach volume and produces malabsorption, reducing calorie absorption, to effect weight loss.

Advantages

  • Greater than 95% control for diabetes and other obesityrelated illnesses
  • Low risk of complications and ulceration at the new joint
  • Less dumping syndrome
  • 80% to 90% excess weight loss
  • Quick recovery

Disadvantages

  • Absorption of protein, minerals and vitamins are affected
  • Requires lifelong supplementation
  • Close, long term follow up required
  • Fat malabsorption can result in digestive symptoms
