What Is The Best Weight Loss Surgery Option For You?

There are many options for patients to decide that weight loss surgery is the best option for them to take control of their obesity. Bariatric surgery, or weight loss surgery, has been around for more than 40 years and has shown to be extremely effective at not only helping patients lose the initial excess weight, but keeping that weight off over time. This is largely dependent on the ability of a patient to follow the appropriate diet and lifestyle recommendations for them as outlined by their surgeon. Patients who relapse into old habits are more likely to put the weight back on (although this is dependent on the type of weight loss surgery they have opted for)

There are many different types of weight loss surgery that have evolved over the last four decades and there have been a wide variety of operations tried and tested over this period. With each type of operation there are many variations on how surgeons perform them. For example, a sleeve gastrectomy operation has so many different variations starting from the size of the bougie used, to the exact location within the stomach the stapling starts,  and even the type of stapler used in buttressing. If required, the type of hiatus hernia repair being performed can also be a factor.

When there is so many different operations available, and it is clear that there is no one ‘perfect’ operation, it can be a challenge for potential candidates for weight loss surgery to understand what is the best path for them to take. There is no one size fits all surgery.

Various factors need to be considered prior to the operation. This includes things like:

  • the presence of reflux
  • previous surgery, or surgeries
  • metabolic diseases like Diabetes etc.

How does one decide on the best weight loss procedure for a given situation?

It is not easy to make the right choice. People often get swayed by what a friend or family member has had done, or even read about. Whilst this information is useful from anecdotal research, it may not necessarily be the best option for your particular situation.

By making an appointment with Mr. Siva Gounder, you will be placing that decision in the hands of a professional with years of experience and many successful surgeries performed under his keen eye. He will go through your medical history and personal objectives and suggest the best treatment for your situation.

Being well trained to and regularly performing all the different weight loss operations available today, such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch and SADI/SIPS procedures, Mr. Gounder will decide with you what suits you best in the long run.

Remember it is not about what is popular at the moment but a sustainable long-term treatment for a disease called obesity that is tailored specifically for you.
